Earl Etonia and Arlie Aaron Carson with Friends, Magazine Mountain
Earl and Arlie Carson with friends stand on a rock outcropping. The photo is undated but a file folder label added many years later (I believe by Arlie's son Arlie Aaron Carson Jr.) reads: "Earl E. and Arlie A. Carson next to tank". Earl was born in 1898 and Arlie was in the army by 1918 so a possible date for this would be between 1915-1917.
I believe Earl is top left and Arlie stands behind him. The resemblance between Arlie Sr. (1893-1963) and our father, Alfred Boatman Carson (1924-2015) is clear. An examination of other photos of Earl confirm he is the man standing top, left.
As to date, we know Earl was Arlie Sr's younger brother and that Arlie Sr. entered the Army for WWI in 1918. Birthdate for Earl is noted as 1898 and in this photo appears as a young adult. A safe guess for date then would be mid-nineteen-teens.
An analysis of location (the rock outcropping on which they stand and the lake in the background below) place this as Magazine Mountain state park and likely Signal Hill atop that mountain. The location is in the Arkansas Ozarks and the general vicinity that includes Fort Smith Arkansas where Earl and Arlie resided.
